Cryptography

Cryptography is the science of securing data through encryption. You'll learn about algorithms, key management, and how to protect data at rest and in transit.

Technology

Learning path

Start with encryption basics, move to PKI and key management.

Career relevance

Important for security architects, engineers, and cryptographers.

Practice projects

  • Build a small certificate authority

Use OpenSSL to create a root and intermediate CA, issue a server certificate and configure a local web server to use it.

What you'll have: A working TLS setup and notes explaining each file you created.

  • Inspect real TLS handshakes

Use Wireshark and openssl s_client to inspect the TLS handshake with a few public sites, and record the protocol versions and cipher suites.

What you'll have: A short comparison of what each handshake negotiated and why it matters.
